Some of major activities
of the Ethiopian Economic Association:

The Association conducts Annual
Conferences where research papers on the Ethiopian Economy are presented.
The proceedings of the Conferences are published annually. The themes of
the ten conferences held to-date are:

1) The Ethiopian Economy: Structure,
Problems and Policy Issues, 2) Problems of Adjustment, 3) Problems and
Prospects of Private Sector Development, 4) Ethiopian Agriculture: Problems
of Transformation, 5) Poverty and Poverty Alleviation, 6) Small-scale Enterprise
Development in Ethiopia, 7) Human Resource Development in Ethiopia, 8)
The Ethiopian Economy: Performance and Evaluation, 9) Institutions, Resources
and Development in Ethiopia, 10) Explaining Economic Growth and Development
in Ethiopia.

The Association organizes regular
bi- monthly Round Table Discussions (RTDs) on which timely and relevant
economic issues are discussed. So far twenty-three RTDs have been conducted.
The topics of these RTDs include the following:

Culture and Economic Policy;
Urban Development and Urban Land Policy; Food Security and Rural Land Policy;
Structural Adjustment Program and Macro Economic Policy; Human Resource
Development; Privatisation and Developing Domestic Entrepreneurship Capacity;
The Economics of the Ethio-Eritrean War; The Relevance of the East Asian
Experience to Ethiopia; Promoting the Export Sector; Regional Economic
Co-operation and Its Future Prospect; Land Policy in Ethiopia; Poverty
in Ethiopia; Economic Policy in the 1992 Elections; Financial Liberalisation;
The Energy Sector; Economic Policy Implementation; Financing Health Services;
Economic Policy in Ethiopia; Industrial Policy; The PRSP Process; Financial
Sector Reform; and The Unemployment Situation in Ethiopia.
The papers presented at
the RTDs and the comments and views reflected, and other articles are published
in the bi-monthly bulletin of the Association titled Economic Focus.

It publishes the Ethiopian Journal
of Economics, a bi-annual .journal, in which economic research findings
are published. To- date the Association has produced fourteen issues of
the Journal.

The Association holds General
Assemblies of members annually where the activities of the Association
are discussed and future plans approved.

The Association has established,
under it, the Ethiopian Economic Policy Research Institute (EEA/EEPRI)
in July 2000 as its . research arm. The Institute would be involved in
research on various issues that are of critical importance for Ethiopia's
economic development. Currently, the Institute is conducting research on
land policy and agriculture, human resource development and industrial
policy.

The Association with the EEPRI
publishes an annual report on the Ethiopian economy. The First Annual Report
was published in 1999/2000 and the second one is expected to be published
by early 2002.
